September Student of the Month
Laura Boegler is a Senior at Westerly High School, Member of the National Honor Society, Honor Roll, Vice President of her Class, Student President of Character Ed, the first student to be Chair of the School Improvement Team. Laura's community service of over 100 hours includes Big Buddies at State Street School, Unified Volley Ball, and the School Improvement Team. She also plays softball and participates in a dance troupe. Laura is interested in child psychology, child development or social work.
October Student of the Month
Kelli Gilluly is a Senior at Westerly High School, Member of the National Honor Society, Honor Roll all 4 years. She has been a four year member of the Tennis, Swim and Character Ed teams. For her community service, Kelli has volunteered for the past four years at Westerly Hospital providing all kinds of support from courier to greeter. She plans on following her sister into Nursing and is considering University of New England, University of Connecticut and University of Rhode Island.
November and December Students of the Month
Olivia Murano (Ms November) is a member of the National Honor Society, Captain of the Cheerleading Squad, Chair of the Pep Club, Editor of the Yearbook and a member of Character Ed. She also was the Chairperson of the Thanksgiving Day Rally and is working on a Winter Sports rally as the focus of her senior project. Olivia hopes to attend Hofstra University after graduation and major in Child Psychology.
Jacob Marra (Mr. December) is President of the Student Council, member of the National Honor Society, member of SADD. Mr. Ruscito described Jacob as his "go to" person when he needs a tour guide, someone to represent the high school of to put together a team of students to organize an event. Jacob's passion is Math and he hopes to study Computer Science at Wentworth Institute next Fall.
January Student of the Month
Thomas Toscano is a member of the National Honor Society, Golf and Swim Teams, Science and Math Teams. He is also the first student to be awarded an Academic Letter - a newly established award similar to an Athletic Letter. For his community service, Tom has worked with Special Olympics and the Dante Society. He has been accepted to the Air Force Academy.
February and March Students of the Month
Madison Rockwood (February) is enrolled in early childhood development classes and is involved in Marching Band, Pep Club and other school activities. She is also a cheerleading coach of the little ones, booking many hours of community service. She is hoping to attend the University of Rhode Island in the Fall.
Elisa Perez (March) is a member of the Westerly High Golf Team, Pep Club and several other student organizations. She has put in many hours of community service at the Westerly Public Library and hopes to major in International Business.
April and May Students of the Month
Taylor Day (April) is a four-year Honor Roll student with four years on the Cheerleading squad. She is also in Pep Club, coaches Basketball and is doing an internship at a local kindergarten class. Taylor has been a youth leader at Central Baptist Church for the past five years. She will graduate with a certificate in Early Childhood Education and plans to attend Eastern Connecticut State University.
Julia Ferraro (May) is a four-year Honor Roll student and a member of both the Rhode Island and National Honor Societies. Her community service includes teaching Italian to elementary school students and a dance program after school for second graders - her Senior Project. Julia plans to study Interior Design at Endicott College.
