Our guest speaker this past Monday evening was Beth Bailey, Marketing Director of the Westerly Education Center.  The Center is in its second year of operation and Beth gave us an overview of what WEC is all about.  Partner relationships, "large and small, public and private, contributed to the expansion of postsecondary training and education offerings."  The number and variety of courses have increased, providing "workforce training and higher education instruction to more than 2,600 students."  The largest partner is General Dynamics Electric Boat along with Community Collect of RI, RI College, Tri-County Community Action Agency, RI Dept of Labor and Training, Skills for RI's Future, CCF/NRI Career Academy, URI, RI School of Design Continuing Ed, Real Jobs RI, RI Marine Trades Asso.

Beth is a graduate of URI in journalism.  She introduced herself by telling us that her son is a RYLA student and has gone back for the 5th year to participate as a mentor for new RYLArians.  She entertained several questions at the end of her talk and invited everyone to visit WEC for a tour of the building, which space is available for rent, i.e. special group training sessions.  The Center is open 7am to midnight.
