Our December Student of the Month is Hope Urbonas.  Introduced by Principal Hobin on Monday, he reminisced about his first year at Westerly High School and met Hope the first time.  He was struck at how she carried herself.  He said the school's motto for 2021 is "Hope" and our Hope is representative of that.  She has taken the hardest classes that are both diverse and interesting.  Academically, Hope has earned the Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish, Artists of the Year Award, 2018 WHS Essay Contest & Scholarship, High Honors/High Honors with Distinction, National Honor Society.  She has been a member of the Poetry Club, Creative Writing Club, Student Council and Student Council President this year, School Improvement Team Representative, School Newspaper Writer, Film Club, WHS Dram Club, International Thespian Society, Colonial Theatre's Shakespeare in the Park, Marching Band, Concert Band, WHS Choir, Freshman Mentor, Girl Scouts with Bronze and Silver Award.  For community service, Hope performed with WHS Choir for Christmas Stroll and Arts Alive, participated in Town Parades, was a junior counselor at Mystic Seaport, performed at WHS graduation ceremonies, was Choral assistant at elementary school music programs with Chorus of Westerly.  We look forward to hearing great things about Hope with her future plans.
