In Service to Others

Several of our members have participated in community events in service to others.  Kathryn and Rona have participate in walks - half marathons or   5Ks for Terri Brodeur Cancer Fund, ALS, MADD, Carlisle-Williams Foundation, Westerly Y, Chikumbuso, Memorial Day Parade, Veterans Day Parade, Columbus Day Parade etc.  Rose and Doug also walked for Chikumbuso.  Cal, Bob E, Dawn and Rose participated in the Bikes for Kids event.  Cal and several church members volunteered in Houston TX, rebuilding homes.  Dan volunteered with the La Penita Rotary Club in Mexico at the LaColmena Primary School to clear and cultivate land for the Edible Garden Project and participated in various activities with the Sedona Red Rocks Rotary Club in Arizona for a total of 47 volunteer hours from late October2017 through early May2018.  Dan also volunteered his time to coordinate the Westerly Rotary Club's Jonnycake Pasta Dinner for Fuel Assistance, which was a joint effort with the Westerly Lions Club, and work with Reforest the Tropics to continue their school program at Westerly Middle and High Schools.  Rose and Doug assisted with those projects.  At least 15 members participated in one way or another with the Jonnycake Pasta Dinner and the Chorus of Westerly Summer Pops Concert in Wilcox Park.  Walter Kimball is a VFW Service Officer helping veterans get assistance as needed.  Our current President, Chris DiPaola is always ready to give people a voice, using his station to give air time to non profit organizations  - all in the service of others.
