Monday evening, 8 July, our guest speaker was Mark Furcolo, Director of the Rhode Island Department of Revenue, with Paul Grimaldi, Chief of Information and Public Relations.  Mark said that the DOR has over 600 employees serving across six divisions:  Department of Motor Vehicles, RI Lottery, Division of Taxation, Office of Revenue Analysis, Division of Municipal Finance and Central Collections Unit.  The mission of the DOR "is to administer its programs, and consistently execute the laws and regulations with integrity and accountability, thereby instilling public confidence in the work performed by the department."  His slide presentation indicated that the streamlining of divisions has increased productivity and improved services.  Advances in the area of technology is allowing for more interaction via internet and online services.
He closed his remarks with mention of "REAL ID" - a Federal mandated program that will be in effect as of October 2020 - everyone will need a Real ID or passport to fly within the United States.  If you would like to read more about this, go to www.dmv.ri.gov.
