Betty J. Cotter  and President Kathryn.

Betty teaches writing at the University of Rhode Island and English at Three Rivers Community College.  She is an author of books about Rhode Island - The Winters, Roberta's Woods, Images of America Series - South Shore Rhode Island  and others.  She has also been writing about the one hundred year history of South County Hospital.   This past Monday evening Betty provided a presentation "Remembering Modern Medicine."  Her pictorial presentation showed the many changes over the years of medical care.  One important note is that money was/is always a problem.  It was interesting to learn that at one time nurses controlled hospital operations in their white, starched uniforms - hospital administration, budgeting, maintaining patient records, as well as patient care - and doctors determined the length of a patient's hospital stay.
