Veterans Day Parade
Doug Rayner and Bob Elmer road in the Veterans Day Parade on Saturday - not only representing Rotary but also the military service in which they served - Air Force and Navy, respectively. We honor all our veterans and their families.
Sunday we met at Westerly Veterans Memorial at 10:45 for the 100 year Memorial Anniversary dedication and the dedication of the five Bronze Armed Forces seals. The Westerly Band performed along with Singer Eileen Fiore. At precisely 11:00 the Christ Church bell rang, followed by the Westerly Fire truck horn, followed by a Pawcatuck Fire truck horn - each alternating 11 times to commemorate the official end of WW I on November 11, 1918. Several of our "senior" veterans were recognized. To unveil the five seals, a veteran of each service was called up. Our very own Joe Potter represented Army. Two Trumpeters of the Westerly Band performed Taps in echo form. A reception followed the ceremony in the library.
