October Student - Nora Brennan
   Nora has earned many academic honors, including "Excellence in Criminal Justice II Award"; has been involved in several extracurricular school activities and the School Improvement Team Chair.  She has logged over 200 community service hours as a counselor for Mystic Seaport Camp, Freshman mentor and assisting at various school events.  Nora is considering a career in Criminal Justice.
 
November Student - Madison O'Neil
   Madison has earned high honors, including Rhode Island Secretary of State Civic Leadership Award 2020.   She is on the Soccer, Indoor Track & Field, Outdoor Track & Field teams, Math Team and the School Improvement Team Secretary.  Madison has logged over 190 community service hours as a counselor at St Andrew Lutheran Church Summer Program, Columbus Day Parade, 2019 Westerly High School graduation Student Council events.  She is hoping to continue her education at West Point.
 
December Student - Hope Urbonas
   Introduced by Principal Hobin, he reminisced about his first year at Westerly High School and met Hope for the first time.  He was struck at how she carried herself.  He said the school's motto for 2021 is "Hope" and our Hope is representative of that.  She has taken the hardest classes that are both diverse and interesting.  She has earned numerous awards and achieved high honors with distinction.  She is a member of the Marching and Concert Bands, WHS Choir, Freshman Mentor, Girl Scouts with Bronze and Silver Awards.  Her community service hours include WHS Christmas Stroll, Arts Alive, town parades, Mystic Seaport junior Counselor, choral assistant at elementary school music programs with Chorus of Westerly.
 
January Student - Jasper Gitzendanner
   Honor student, musician (alto sax and cello), hockey player, videographer, artist.  Jasper performs with the Warwick Symphony Orchestra as well as the WHS Marching, Symphonic and Jazz Bands.  He is also a reporter with the FBLA WHS Chapter and is Treasurer of the WHS Student Council.  He has created promotional videos for companies, festivals and WHS.  Mr. Hobin stated that Jasper has more than 88 documented hours of community service which include being a junior counselor at the Frosty Drew Nature amp in Charlestown working with children ages 4 - 8 and helping at the Jonnycake Center.
 
February Student - Michael L Mancini
   Honor student in the Top Ten of his class, Michael has earned High Honors with Distinction, a "classic kid" per Mr. Hobin.  Michael plays Alto Sax with the Marching, Concert and Jazz Bands and he earned First Chair at the NAFME All-East Honors Jazz Ensemble, First Chair at the RI All-State Jazz Band and First Chair at the RI All-State Band, placed as vocal bass in the RI All-State Mixed Chorus.  Michael has accumulated over 128 community service hours which include helping at St Pius Church as an altar server and helping the Youth Group.
 
March Student - Adam Gilman
   Rotary Club of Westerly RYLA Student of 2020, WHS Class President, School Committee Representative, Boys' State Student, Adam is an Honors Student and participates in Soccer, Basketball, Golf, Future Business Leaders.  He is a Big Buddies mentor and volunteers with the Westerly Youth Soccer Association, our Lady of Mt Carmel Feast Committee and the 75th Anniversary of D-Day Presentation.
 
April Student - Tanner Kelly
   Awards to Tanner include high honors with distinction, National Honor Society, RI Honor Society, French Honor Society.  He has been a member of WHS Cross Country, Outdoor and Indoor Track Teams.  He is a US Certified Level 1 Sailing Instruction, WHS Freshman Mentor and has over 225 volunteer hours with the South Country Emergency Department, Ness Junior Instructor and Race Coach.  Tanner will be heading to the U. S. Naval Academy.
 
May Student - Diana Turano
   Diana's academic honors include High Honors with Distinction, Academic letter and pin, National Honor Society and Academic All State.  She has been a member of the Soccer, Lacrosse, Dance, Indoor and Outdoor Track Teams.  Her community service includes Freshmen Mentor, Columbus Day Parade, Alzheimer's Association Walk, Volunteer Youth Soccer Coach, Covid Testing Athlete's Check-in, RIIL Crossroads Food Drive Collection.  Diana will be entering the Nursing Program at URI.
