We had the pleasure of having Chef Finkelstein and WHS Highland Griller Bella provide us with their award-winning Chowder and Clamcakes - so very delicious!! They recently won First Place People's Choice at the Mystic Chowder event and they were the only school represented. They also received an award for Best Use of Local Ingredients. Congratulations to these students for all their efforts and professionalism. Chef Jamie said that his program has three levels of Certification and Bella has achieved all. She volunteers for all catering jobs and has over 400 hours in community service.
Chef Jamie spoke about the Food Insecurity Program which is providing prepared foods free to our community. They have obtained three refrigerators - at school, at Westerly Library and Westerly Police Dept substation. "Grab and Go" meals made with repurposed food that would have ended up in the landfill. They have made over 1100 meals since February. Our Foundation approved a donation of $500 toward this project.
